Key Cutting Questions
Can you duplicate a key that says "Do Not Duplicate"?
Yes, with proper authorization. "Do Not Duplicate" is a request, not a law. However, we require proof that you're authorized to duplicate the key - such as being the property owner, having a letter from the property manager, or showing a lease agreement. This protects everyone's security.
What if my original key is worn out?
If your original key is too worn, duplicating it will create an even worse copy. Instead, we can cut a new key "by code" using your lock's key code, or we can remove your lock cylinder and cut a key directly from the lock. This ensures you get a perfect key.
Can you cut a key if I don't have the original?
Yes! We can create new keys in several ways: (1) from the key code stamped on your lock, (2) by removing the lock and cutting a key to match the pins, or (3) by impressioning a key (creating a working key from a blank). We do this all the time for lost keys.
How long do duplicate keys last?
A properly cut key should last just as long as your original - typically 5-10 years with normal use. The quality of the cut matters more than the blank material. Our precision cuts ensure maximum lifespan. Cheap hardware store copies often fail within months.
Do you cut high-security keys like Medeco?
